From the Bride :: There’s something so magical about a wedding. The Stephen Andrew Sentenn family has never existed before, and therefore I wanted our wedding to be unlike any wedding that has ever been before. The vision was to take inspiration from the past and create something new. The goal was to remain classic while still unique. I started by looking over wedding photographs of our family members- my parents, his parents, grandparents on each side, and the like. These photographs actually became a part of the decor at the reception.
The color palette we drew from was to mimic this concept of making the old new. The colors used were all muted in tone. There was a great deal of grey, peachy-pink, cream, taupe, and light/mint green used in the details. These colors reminded me of my grandmother’s china, and so too were they present in my bridal bouquet. We used the wood from my grandfather’s farm to create the center piece of the ceremony, a cross that was displayed on the mantle. The gourds and dried hydrangea used throughout were given to us by my aunt and uncle. Many of the details were created by my loving mother, like the antique headboard that she distressed and painted with chalkboard paint that become a menu and welcoming sign. It truly was a family affair, created with love.
Every vendor that was chosen was stalked long before they were hired. I knew we had the best of the best in the Birmingham area. On November 23rd, 2013 they displayed not only their talents, but the heart they have for their unique place within a wedding day. I am so grateful for the vision that they brought to life at the Sonnet House.
To me, it truly was the best day ever. The inspiration we drew from our heritage came alive in the details. It seems as though we made history that day, and our love is one that could rival the greatest of love stories.
