Kelsey and Rob’s Winter Green Wedding

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Our mom’s have been great friends for over a decade. Rob is older than me so even though I “knew” him, we didn’t really get to know each other until my freshman year of college. We had our first real date the following summer and have been inseparable ever since.

What was the feel that you wanted to accomplish for your wedding and how did you execute that. We both wanted our wedding to be an intimate, romantic celebration of our love and life together. We kept our wedding itself super small, which was tough at first coming from a larger family but it was so worth it in the end! As far as design goes, I wanted it to be earthy, elegant and warm. The design team totally accomplished that with the flowers and greenery!

What was your venue (church and/or reception) and why did you select it? We got married in my lifelong church, St. Francis Xavier by one of the most Godly men I have ever met. Our reception was at the Clubhouse on Highland, just a block from Rojo where we had our first date. The reception felt like we were at a dear friend’s home — exactly what I had pictured for our celebration.

What is the one detail or vendor that you were so happy to have as a part of your wedding? We had the best experience with all of our vendors so I could never choose a favorite. I fell in love with the idea with this magical floral staircase only a week or two before the wedding. It was the most perfect backdrop and focal point at the reception. I still have dreams about it! My husband also had the idea of having a band play from our new city, Fort Worth play at the reception. We brought in a group that we love to go see on Sunday afternoons and they were so much fun. Rob didn’t have too many requests for our reception so it was a nice touch that we could make that happen.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day? Hands down, seeing my soon to be husband for the first time! He looked so handsome and happy, who wouldn’t want to marry that guy? Every time that I think of our first look, I can’t help but smile.

Where did you find your dress? I found my dress at Carriage House Weddings in Birmingham and those ladies are phenomenal. I had my dream dress designed in my head but couldn’t find it anywhere (and trust me, I looked at a lot of places). I met with the designer of my dress at CH and she made it happen.

Any advice for current Birmingham Brides? Hire Ginny Au right now! Only partly kidding there, but my best advice to any bride is to remember the wedding is about you, your groom and your love for one another. So when things go a little awry (and they probably will), take a breath and remind yourself that your wedding should be the happiest day of your life thus far. Just try to savor every last second of the engagement and wedding planning because it was such a special little chapter of our relationship.
