How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Josh and I met in high school. We both ran cross country together, but really did not hang out or even talk that much. We ended up have English together in 10thgrade and became friends, but after that year we did not speak for almost an entire year until junior prom came up that following spring. Prom is always an interesting event and usually people are scrambling to ask someone. One of Josh’s friends told him that he should ask me and he did! We ended up hanging out a few times before prom and it was so much fun. He is really funny and just fun to be around so I liked him right off the bat! We started dating right after prom and dated throughout our time at Auburn. We got married the summer after we graduated from Auburn.
What was your venue and why did you select it? For the ceremony we got married under a big oak tree. We wanted something simple and casual and the tree was the perfect fit for us! We love the outdoors, especially in the summer time so it made sense to get married someone memorable. Our reception was in a barn and definitely fit the casual feel we were going for. I wanted a lot of lights outside for the dance floor and it was a great venue for that since there was so much space outside of the barn.
What is the one detail or vendor that you were so happy to have as part of your wedding? We had Act of Congress as our band for the reception. I absolutely loved having them! I love their music, but I also love their folk sound. It was a wonderful fit for our reception.
The one detail that I loved from our ceremony would be that Josh got to share the Gospel with our friends and family. It was really important to us to share the biggest part of our lives with everyone there. The Lord was so faithful in providing Josh the perfect words and it is definitely something that I will never forget.
What was your favorite moment or part of the day? Probably my favorite moment was our first look. It was such a sweet time! I loved getting to celebrate before everything even started. I also loved being able to process the day with Josh just one on one. I definitely treasure that time and I am so thankful to have photos and video of it.
What was the best advice you received as a bride? The best advice hands down was to remember that our engagement was not just about a wedding. It is so easy to get caught up in the wedding planning, showers, and registering, but those things come and go. Marriage is forever and if we only focused on those other things we would be disappointed the day after the wedding because all of it would be over. I am thankful for the time we had in our engagement to prepare our hearts for marriage. Being intentional in that time has really blessed our marriage.
